- 2 lb sweet potatoes
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into roughly 1-inch chunks so they cook evenly.
Place the sweet potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water by about an inch. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over high heat.
Reduce heat to maintain a gentle boil and cook until the potatoes are very tender, about 12–15 minutes. Test by piercing with a fork; it should slide in easily.
Drain the potatoes well and return them to the warm pot. Let them steam for a minute to evaporate excess water.
Add the butter, honey, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the potatoes. Mash using a potato masher or use a handheld mixer on low for a smoother texture. Taste and adjust seasoning. If you like a brighter note, stir in the lemon juice.
Transfer to a serving bowl, dot with an extra pat of butter if desired, and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Serve warm.
